OVERVIEW / PLOT :
Master is an Indian Tamil-language
action-thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who also wrote the
screenplay along with Rathna Kumar and Pon Parthiban. The film stars Vijay and
Vijay Sethupathi, with Malavika Mohanan, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah and
Shanthanu Bhagyaraj in supporting roles. It was produced by Xavier Britto,
under his maiden production studio XB Film Creators, with Lalit Kumar and
Jagadish Palaniswamy co-producing the film; the former also distributed the
film under the banner Seven Screen Studios.
REVIEW :
Lokesh’s Master starts off with a
intense elevating sequence of Bhavani portrayed by VijaySethupathi. That hard
hitting elevation platformed an excellent perspective for a villain character.
Film progresses forward with few college sequences dominated by Vijay’s style
and swag. Opening song boosts up the adrenaline levels high with few massive
shaky steps from Vijay. Even though the colleges sequences gave a IN and OUT
feel , Vijay’s part in that made justice to that whole portion. Right from
there things start getting heater and heater. Film moves tightly with grippy
sequences till the interval with a massive INTERVEL block.
The second half begins off with few ultimate sequences with
Quit Pannuda and Vaathi Raid coming in very exact positions. These two songs
sets a uniform tone and turns the platform of the film. Rather making this a
normal Cat and Mouse with commercial elements , Lokesh decided to add on few
emotions and messages. Its often considered that a message coming out from
Vijay’s mouth is well reached , taking this scenario Lokesh tried to fill in
the necessary messages in a clever manner . The predictability and the length
affected this 2nd half a bit . But very well managed and covered up
by Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi – Anirudh throughout. Lokesh delieved what he
promised exactly by neither making it a Vijay film nor his film.
CAST PERFORMANCES :
Vijay was found in a perfect mixture
of Style and Swag. VIjaySethupathi was deadly and has done his role flawlessly
by scoring extremely well in necessary sequences. Andrea shares her screen
space in a very important scene and scores well. Malavika Mohanan looks too
cute and scored well in few emotional sequences and has also done justice for
the screen space given to her. Arjun Das’s performance in this Master will be
the most spoken on for the upcoming days. Shanthunu , Gowri , Sibi and Poovaiyaar
does well and scores in few important sequences given to them.
OVERALL VERDICT :
Though the
predictability and length in 2nd half were hurdles , those hurdles
were very comfortably cleared and broken by the works of Anirudh , Vijay and
Vijay sethupathi. Usually Lokesh deals of thriller in a fabulous manner , but
his dealing of Action drama MAY NOT be accepted by 2-5% of audience . But
there’s Anirudh always running in heads, so you will like it for sure.
POSITIVES :
- TOP NOTCH PERFORMANCES FROM BOTH THE STARS
- ANIRUDH'S ADRENALINE PUMPING MUSIC AND BGM
- EXCELLENT SONG PLACEMENTS
- LOKESH'S CHARACTER DESIGNING
- MINUTELY PREDICTABLE AND LENGTHY SECOND HALF.
